The generation of parents that came into being in the 50s & 60s never gave any thought to how safe the perfumes, lotionS, baby oil, baby powder, soaps, bubble bath, facial cleansers, clothing dyes and other feminine bath & skin care products we bathed & pampered our baby girls with. We thought that since the stores sold all these nice smelling products for our daughters, the chemicals in them were harmless & safe. We thought that we did not need to worry about how these products could affect a baby's skin sensitivity or the vulnerability of their tiny bodies, their developing organs, immune systems, hormone glands & brains. Nice smelling baby care products were part of the whole charm of babies and it was a compliment to hear someone say how nice your baby smelled. Surely all these sweet smelling baby products were safe and meant to be part of a how we mothered our babies....
BUT WE WERE VERY WRONG ABOUT THIS
AND NOW WE KNOW BETTER!
Though toddlers & babies ARE resilient, their bodies and brains & immune systems are very fragile and can easily be damaged in many subtle but important ways by harmful chemicals. All infants & young children should be protected from toxins in their environments as much as possible in this rather toxic world. There is no point in getting overly concerned about it; we just have to try our best. All we can really do is reduce our childrens exposure to toxins whenever we CAN and eliminate toxins from everything that we can. The clothes, they wear, the home surfaces they spend a lot of time in contact with, ie. play toys, blankets, bedding & bath towels & baby bath products.
